Good Morning Vietnam!

And trust me… it was morning… around 4am on Saturday when we set of Ho Chi Min City, aka Saigon…

This weekend I ticked off another location of places that I have always wanted to visit, and one that I missed on my first time round….
I didn’t really know what to expect from Vietnam… it’s strange ‘cos living in Singapore really dilutes your image of the ‘real’ Asia…. Singapore is so developed and commercial, sometimes it’s easy to forget that you are Asia at all, and surrounded by most of the worlds developing countries… It’s shocking to take a bus or boat across the boarder into Malaysia and see the difference in lifestyle, culture, infrastructure etc etc.
Anyway I’m rambling… Vietnam was great… it’s been a while since I visited somewhere a bit…. Um… well, ghetto I guess. The people were sweet and friendly, the food was great that the roads were scary.. what more could a girl ask for… lol?!
The adventure began at the airport from the crazy visa lady to the dicing with death cab ride to the hotel… you should have seen this thing… as my man said ‘It was worse from the inside than out… and that’s what was most worrying’… Anyway we finally made it to the hotel… a masterpiece in the hustle and bustle of the smoky city center located on the edge of the Saigon River.
The city is pretty small and once we had our bearings we managed to take in pretty much all the major points of interest in the first day… walking around the war museum was pretty moving, it helped me to understand why there are sooo many physically challenged people in Vietnam… it’s quite heart renching… another reason probably steams from it being impossible to cross a road, or pavement in fact without having two pairs of eyes… Honestly it was a team effort to be able to get across the street, not just some of them…. ALL of them! I’m proud to say after a few near misses (which is all it takes) we had it nailed :o)
It’s a shame we didn’t have more time to explore the rest of the country but from what I did get to experience I really liked Vietnam, most of all the people from the smiley coconut sellers to random’s we asked for assistance who’d bend over backwards to help.
Hopefully I’ll get to go again soon but in the mean time I have a great weekend to store in my memory banks.

Cheers

Zoom Zoom

Life is a little crazy at the moment, but I am sure that that will not surprise you in the least.
I have as always been globetrotting. Now that I am living in Singapore, or as I like to call it ‘The Gateway to Asia’ I am traveling more than ever, trying to cram in as much of the continent as possible before I leave for pastures new.
It’s kind of exciting being her again, the prospect of hanging out with some old faces.. not to mention the new.
I’ve been working my pants off… covering 3 different time zones takes it out of you, you know! Although it can get stressful sometime, I can’t really complain, I get to travel with my job and it’s allowed me to travel to the other side of the world. I couldn’t be happier to be honest. Sure I miss London and that is where home will always be, but my life in Asia is great and lets face it, London ain’t going anywhere. Besides my mum came over to visit a few weeks ago and that certainly banished any feelings of homesickness that may have been rearing their head.
So apart from that not much else has been going on…
I’ve made some good friends, dive and travel as much as possible… work hard and play hard.
Just made a little trip across to Oz for a good old fashioned Ozzy wedding.. it was messy to say the least, messy but great… It was the wedding of a girl I hitch hiked with when I was in Oz last time believe it or not, managed to do a whistle stop tour catching up with as many people from the first time round as possible… Hangin’ out with the Cooparoo gang in Brizzy has got to have been one of the most bazaar experiences on the trip … lol.
In between India (for work) and planning my next trip I haven’t really had time to do much else… Oh except…
I’m trying to get fit and have started this health fad but I’m not sure how long that will last especially when I spend 50% of the time in pain, recovering from whatever crazy fitness activity I have decided I will get into ‘this week’…. None of them have been too expensive so far…. But let’s face it I’ve only just began… I could do that typical boy thing where I decide to take up golf… buy thousands worth of equipment and give them pride of place in the cupboard under the stairs…. Let’s see what happens.
Oh and how can I not mention the first ever Singapore Night F1 race! It was awesome…. My fella works for Shell so we had track side views with too much alcohol and not enough food ;o). Not sure if you guys caught it, but it was eventful to say the least!
What else have I been up to… time jus seems to be whizzing past??? I can’t believe I’ve been in Singapore for 5 months! I panic cos I feel I’m running out of time here to see things, I need to make sure that I don’t drag my heals… you know how these things happen in old age… ;o)
Anyway for those of you who are still traveling… keep crusading… and for those of you who aren’t… keep the dream alive I guess … and good luck.

I’ll try and write again soon…

Love as always

p.s. I just remembered, I don’t have any stairs :o/
